Quick definitions for the SEO and AI-search terms you’ll see across LawFirmJoy’s guides and services.
GEO(Generative Engine Optimization)
GEO is the practice of structuring web content so AI answer engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews — can find, understand, and cite it directly in generated answers.
GEO is often described as the AI-era counterpart to SEO: instead of optimizing to rank in a list of links, GEO optimizes content to be the quoted source inside an AI-generated response.
AEO(Answer Engine Optimization)
AEO is the practice of formatting content to directly and concisely answer specific questions, making it more likely to be surfaced as a featured answer by search engines and AI assistants alike.
NAP Consistency
NAP consistency means a business's Name, Address, and Phone number are listed identically across its website, Google Business Profile, and every online directory — inconsistencies can hurt local search rankings.
Schema Markup
Schema markup is structured code added to a webpage, following the schema.org vocabulary, that explicitly tells search engines and AI systems what the page's content means — such as marking a block of text as an FAQ, an article, or a business's service listing.
